In this article we explain how to setup an extension on Zoiper for both Android and iOS Smartphones.
Instructions
Please note that the description below may differ from this guide depending on device. Also note that Zoiper does not provide all features in the free version, e.g. call forwarding.
-
Download and Install the App from the App Store
-
Configure your account: For extension 1001 it would be:
- Username: 1001@company.impactpbx.com (replace company.impactpbx.com with your PBX link provided above)
- Password: Extension password for 1001 provided in the OTS link above
- Select “Create Account”
- Host name: company.impactpbx.com (replace company.impactpbx.com with your PBX link provided above)
- Skip authentication username or outbound proxy
- Wait for the check of the connection type (it should show SIP UDP in green)
- Then select “Finish”
- The account should be set up correctly. In the app, when you click the upper left menu next to “Search”, you should see your account with the message “Account is ready”.
- Optional: If you want to see your name as account name, then click on the account 1001@company...., select “Settings” > “Accounts” > 1001@company.... > Account Name and change it to your preferred name, e.g. Dave at Work and return to the main screen.
- Applying the following settings to avoid connection or quality problems:
- Go to Menu > Settings > Accounts > “your account” > Network Settings > Transport Type and set it to UDP.
- In … > “your account” > Audio Codec Settings, make sure that uLaw (also called G.711, PCMU) and aLaw (also called G.711, PCMA) are activated. Move them to the top of the list.
- You are now all set to make and receive phone calls.
With this setup you can make and receive calls directly to your phone extensions, e.g. 1001, on your mobile. Using this means you don’t need to provide your mobile number to customers. If you want to call a colleague who is on extension 1002, just dial 1002 and you will be connected without incurring any costs (please note that your colleague also needs to be connected). Incoming calls can also be forwarded to mobile numbers, however, this can be set up by the admin via the management console.
Please note: If your PBX is only reachable from specific IPs (whitelisting) and you want to use the app outside your company network, you need to have a VPN tunnel installed and active. This enables you to make and receive calls on your smartphone client from any location. Please ask your admin for further assistance.
