Here we explain how to setup an extension for making calls on a Windows machine using a 3CX Phone.
Instructions
You need the installer file 3CXPhone6.msi, which can be found using Google or via request in our MS Team channels. The actual 3CX Client downloadable from the 3CX website will not work.

Create Profile > New
- Apply the settings as shown in the screenshot below:
Account Name: Your Name
Caller ID, Extension, ID: Your extension number
Password: Your extension password
Select “I am out of the office – external IP” and fill in the IP of your PBX we provided, e.g. yourcompany.impactpbx.com
4. Click on “Advanced Settings”
Enter your own extension number in PBX Voicemail. This enables calling the VM when clicking on the VM button in the phone.
Make sure UDP is set and that PCMU & PCMU are at the top of the list in Audio Codecs.
Click OK to close all windows.
5. The phone should register now and should show “On Hook” and “Available” after a few seconds:
6. Click the big phone button at the bottom of the phone and select “Preferences”. Make sure your sound devices are selected correctly and configure the phone to your preferences.
7. You are now ready to dial.
Optional Setting Up of Softkeys for Speed Dial and Dial Codes
- You can set up Buttons for Speed Dial and Dial Codes as short cut keys. It looks like this:
To set up the Softkeys, Click on your Name in the upper right corner and select Soft keys:
You can define the Softkeys to Speed Dial colleagues or external numbers, dial codes for specific actions etc. A link to the List of Dial codes is available below. Please bear in mind that not all feature codes are available.
Please note: If your PBX is only reachable from specific IPs (whitelisting) and you want to use the softphone outside your company network, you need to have a VPN tunnel installed and active. This enables you to make and receive calls on your smartphone client from anywhere. Please ask your admin for further assistance.
